Along one-quarter mile of the Providence River, large tree branches stand as sentinels along the river’s banks, as they once did hundreds of years ago, before the river was canalized and divorced from its natural ecology. Informational signage on toxic substances found in the river: mercury, selenium oxide, lead, cadmium, etc. was also placed along the handrails between the branches.
